And so it begins…

18 Jan

Work finally started yesterday on Tilly’s Cottage — so, a journey that began over a year ago with the search for the perfect house (well, perhaps I should say the search for the “imperfect house”),  followed by several months of purchase negotiation, paperwork finalization and red tape, has finally begun.

Here’s Mick the builder (yes, that’s really his name) getting the scaffolding up at the front of the house.  Since I’m still working on some elements of my planning permission with the city council, the only work that can officially begin is the remedial work on the existing structure.  I am still waiting to initiate the extension.

Mick and team are starting with the roof while things are clear and dry here in Ireland.  The sunlight streaming through the roof was a bit unnerving so they’re going to “winterize” the outside with a new roof, insulation in the attic, clear-out the current residents from the chimney and then sandblast the paint from the front and re-point all the brick while the scaffolding is up.  My new windows are on order and should be here in a few weeks so once they’re in, the house will have a bit more curb appeal.  And how ironic is it that the outside will be taking shape only to have no “loo” or kitchen in the inside?

Oh My Gosh!! How exciting!! Can’t wait to see more as it happens! I’m stuck way out in North Central Kansas with my mom who had knee replacement surgery so I haven’t been able to keep up with you like I was! Can’t wait to get home and get back to my routine! Congratulations!

Thanks, all! I’m SO excited to finally have some ideas put into reality! It’s funny how when you think and plan for something for a long time how it begins to seem like it’s never going to happen. This is the fun part.
