Kilruddery House & Gardens

4 Sep

I’ve been to a lot of mansion houses in Ireland (being the penultimate tourist that I am) but Kilruddery House is now topping the list of favorites. I went there the other night for an event and couldn’t stop snapping pics.

The formal gardens were created in the 17th century and apparently,  are one of the few surviving gardens like it in Europe.  The site also has a beautifully restored Orangery modeled on London’s Crystal Palace which houses a collection of Italian marble statues.

The house was also the site of a number of well-known films including “Far and Away” (for the record, Tom Cruise has the world’s worst Irish accent) and “The Count of Monty Cristo”.
