Ten years on…

11 Sep

I can’t seem to see the date September 11th and just act like it’s a normal day because it wasn’t a normal day for me at all.  Living in Boston at the time, I just had too many people I know who were personally affected by that day.

But, I like to write about design so, in keeping with that theme, I thought I’d share a few photos and details about the memorial.  The site opens today for families of the victims and will be open tomorrow to the public.

Michael Arad is the American architect who won the design competition for the World Trade Center Memorial in New York City in 2004.  His concept was to replace the twin towers with a pair of pools set 30 feet deep in the “footprints” of the downed towers, with cascading waterfalls surrounded by the names of the victims.
