Tracy Porter Design

19 Sep

Designer and author, Tracy Porter, does some really great stuff.  Check out her blog for more inspiration.  I recently came across her tableware and it reminded me a lot of the Boho Dining series that I liked from Anthropologie.

Yup, she’s whimsical, too — you’d never believe that I wear black nearly every day with the color and textures I like in home design and accessories.

Patchwork chair

19 Jul

This patchwork chair was in Anthropologie and I took a photo of a similar chair in Cath Kidston a couple of years ago that I’ve been holding onto in my inspiration file ever since.  I told you there would be more to come on a project with my mother and there still is definitely more to come on something that’s been in the works for more than a year (or should I said, been in my head for more than a year).  So for today, just eye candy.

Paper Christmas tree

20 Dec

Apologies for this photo which is not the best quality.  I took this photo a few years ago on my phone because I was in Anthropologie (which, any loyal readers will know is one of my favorite spots) and I saw this very fun decor.  It was like looking at one of my old school projects — they had simply taken old phone books, diagonally cut the pages, spray painted them green and then layered them on a cone shape.  They had a bunch of these throughout the store of all different sizes in groupings.  It was adorable.  Once again, those retail designers at Anthropologie really inspire me.

My mirror must-have

29 Nov

Dear Santa, all I want for Christmas is this mirror that I can’t even come close to affording and can only be delivered to a UK address.  If I had all the time in the world, Santa, I would spend my days scouring the auction houses for fun, vintage mirrors and I would make one myself.  Oh well, in the meantime, maybe you’ll keep it in mind for me next year after it goes on sales? I promise I’ll be a good girl.

Boho Dining from Anthropologie

25 Sep

I’m so digging on the “Boho Dining” tableware from Anthropologie — oh, money fairy, please rain down on me beofre it’s time to buy dishes…these puppies are on the list.

Perfect for my mix-and-match style and great in the event that soemthing gets broken as you could easily throw in a different pieces without skipping a beat.

And since these are essentially little works of art themselves, I think they would look fabulous on those open shelves in the kitchen which I’ve been planning.  And yes, they ship internationally to Ireland…phew!

Admiration for Anthropologie

6 Sep

I work with a lot of companies in retail and I can tell you, there’s a lot to be learned from Anthropologie.  Their window displays are second to none and their store design  is inspiring.  They design team at Anthropologie are constantly pushing boundaries to avoid the me-too look of every other home / clothing store.

While I find them a bit pricey, I always love going into their store when I’m in Boston just to get inspired and I have lots of grainy mobile phone photos taken of their stores over the years to prove it. So, if you’re looking for inspiration, why don’t you go do  some window shopping at Anthropologie…

Pop of color

24 Aug

There are lots of signature looks in this image — from the wardrobe with its uniquely designed doors, to the upholstered wingback chair, to the empty frames on the wall.  I think the thing that brings it all together, however, is the bright blue wall.  If it were a muted color, it wouldn’t have nearly the impact. I’m not sure if I’m quite brave enough to use a color like this but I love the way it pulls this room of unique items together to create an even more unique look.
