Wordy double-seater

29 Jul

I love all the typographic elements that are coming into play in interior design. This settee is the first time I’ve seen it brought into furniture in this way. Fun − and wouldn’t this be a great way to contemporize a flea market find??

Silhouettes

19 Sep

I spent a small fortune a few years ago having some Martha Stewart Living catalogs sent to me in Ireland — I thought they were going to be big chunky catalogs full of ideas but…they weren’t.  Instead of packed with ideas, they were just pieces that sell her furniture line (and I paid for that?)   Anyway, enough of my rant.

I did end up scanning a few of the pages in each of these catalogs — this one is from her home at Turkey Hill. I like the settee and I especially like the series of silhouettes that she has framed above the settee.  It would be fun to create a series of your own featuring loved ones as an alternative to photographs for a clean-lined look.

Dublin Free Trade

22 Aug

I’m too far away from moving in to take full advantage of this but anyone living in Dublin looking for furniture should take advantage of Dublin Waste Management’s free website for free goods. They recently set up a separate site:  www.freetradeireland.ie

I’m always popping in and out of the site to see what’s available.  I just took a look today and saw this settee.  Might not look like much at the moment but imagine it re-upholstered in some funky IKEA fabric with legs painted white.  The shape and size of it are so cool that I think it would be a little gem.  If I were taking on this project, I think I’d do the tufted buttons on the back in a bright accent color just to really bring out the features of the piece.
