In honor of the queen’s visit to Ireland

19 May

It’s a historic week for Ireland in that Queen Elizabeth is visiting the country this week — the first royal visit in 100 years.  The last serving British monarch to visit Dublin was King George V in 1911, before WWI and before the republic gained independence from Britain almost 90 years ago.

Clodagh V.  is playing in a string quartet which will be performing for the Queen today so I thought I’d show off a few of my favorite British-themed design looks.

Nella Designs

I’m diggin’ on Nella Designs.  She has fantastic papercraft but my favorites are the custom silhouette posters she does (I know – surprise, surprise – right?).

Send in your photo and text and she’ll whip up one of these little numbers. So cute. So hip.

There are a lot of other great posters, cards, and stationery on the site.

Silhouettes everywhere

27 Dec

I have written a few times now about how I love silhouettes.  It seems like they’re everywhere I turn. I love that they’re no longer confined to an oval frame on the wall but are busting out in new ways.  Thanks to Michelle for sending me some additional silhouette ideas!

But with all my writing about it, I don’t have any — maybe because I don’t have kiddies and people might think it was completely over-the-top if I had a series of silhouettes of Tilly — hmmm, now that’s an interesting idea.

Funkified silhouettes and a fun poster

3 Dec

I came across this fun little silhouette duo a few weeks ago and saved it into a folder hoping that I’d remember to do a post on it because I thought they were so fun. I don’t actually know what they’re made of but they look like they’re silhouettes of mom & dad in a baby’s room.  I love the fun pattern incorporated into the art and the colors are so happy.

And speaking of happy colors, I love this heart poster.  It’s just simple and fun and could brighten up just about any room.  The simplest ideas are sometimes the best when it comes to making a room work and I think this is a case in point.

Silhouettes

I spent a small fortune a few years ago having some Martha Stewart Living catalogs sent to me in Ireland — I thought they were going to be big chunky catalogs full of ideas but…they weren’t.  Instead of packed with ideas, they were just pieces that sell her furniture line (and I paid for that?)   Anyway, enough of my rant.

I did end up scanning a few of the pages in each of these catalogs — this one is from her home at Turkey Hill. I like the settee and I especially like the series of silhouettes that she has framed above the settee.  It would be fun to create a series of your own featuring loved ones as an alternative to photographs for a clean-lined look.
